ISO 105-X18: Assessment of the Potential to Phenolic Yellowing of Materials
- James Heal Test Kit1 used to determine the propensity of a white product to yellow
- Results are reported using AATCC Staining Scale
- AATCC Committee round robin testing supported that this is a viable test for determining the propensity to yellow in storage.

Phenolic Yellowing
Phenols: Compound which, if found on fabric, may cause discoloration (yellowing or pinking).
EPA Method 420.1 – Phenolics (Spectrophotometric, Manual 4-AAP with Distillation) Direct photometric method is used to determine the phenol level of a substrate.
- Sample is extracted with water bath or Morapex extractor
- Extract is analyzed by a spectrophotometer
- Results reported in ppm (parts per million)
